Brewing Guatemalan Coffee
Guatemalan coffee provides a unique coffee drinking experience. While the coffee itself is quality enough to stand on its own its very important to understand how the brewing process affects the taste. There are three ways that we recommend you enjoy your Leuer Trading Co. coffee. Let's talk about one.
Pour Over
This method requires a pour over dripper. These can be found at your local grocery store or you can find different affordable options on Amazon.com. Just don't forget to get the filters that you need as well.
For the pour over it is important to understand how much water and coffee you are using to optimize the flavor.
- Make sure to prep your dripper by placing the filter in the dripper and saturating it with hot water. This will seal your filter and warms the dripper. This allows the temperature to stay consistent.
- Make sure you use the right grind. This depends on the taste you are looking for. I would recommend a medium grind for optimum flavor. If you have your own grinder don't be shy to try different grinds and see how it affects the taste.
- Lastly, the pour. You want to make sure you are saturating all your coffee and you want to use the correct ratio. 1:17 coffee to water ratio is recommended. That means per 1 gram of coffee you want to use 17 grams of water. A small scale would be able to help you keep the ratio intact.
This whole process should take 1-2 minutes.
The pour over method is a simple method that dates back to the original way coffee was consumed. This method is great to extract the lighter floral flavors in Leuer Trading Co. Guatemalan coffee. It dampens the bold chocolate base just a bit and creates a flavor profile that focuses on other flavors you might not initially experience under a traditional brewing method.
If you have never had a pour over, give it a try and let us know how your experience was. We'd love to hear your feedback. Next we will discuss the French Press.
